career exploration & workforce development ... FOR GIRLS!
After reading the iconic book “Rich Dad Poor Dad” Cindy knew she had to be in Real Estate & Flipping. While in high school she took extra classes at her local community college so that she could graduate early which she did at the age of 16. When she was 17, she was offered an opportunity for an internship and moved from San Diego to Dallas and got to work with one of the first Female Contractors in Texas in Commercial Construction. After her internship, she returned to San Diego with her eyes fixed on Real Estate and Flipping more than ever. She went back to college but found it difficult to manage full-time work and full-time college so she made the difficult decision to leave college so that she could focus on Real Estate. She took a property management job while she was studying for her Real Estate Exam and mapped out how she was going to do her first flip. At 19, she got her Real Estate License, found her first flip project (a mobile home) and also found out that she was pregnant with her first child!
After being in a scary/toxic relationship for over 15 years, Cindy decided that it was time to reclaim her life. She didn’t want her daughters in the crosshairs of a messy divorce, so she walked away from so much that she helped build to “keep the peace”. Now a single mother with two teen daughters, Cindy was determined to show them that beauty can be found out of ashes. She craved stability not just for herself but for her girls and decided to take a job working for someone else while she healed from the chaos that had consumed her for so many years. She had previously completed over 100 home renovations and needed a space where she didn't have to make a million decisions. Taking a step back to regroup was just what she needed. She went on to become an even more successful business owner and is dedicated to empowering women to confidently do Home Renovations, for themselves and for others. She doesn’t just want to transform homes; she wants to transform lives!
When asked if she has ever felt out of place in the workforce because she is a woman, Cindy said that as a woman you must outwork and outsmart everyone to feel baseline to your male counterparts. She’s constantly had to dodge bullets left and right such as listening to comments like “If you showed up in a mini skirt, we might actually listen to you”. Although being in the construction industry isn’t fair for all genders, Cindy says neither is life and if we just sit back and take it we will watch our daughters suffer and be minimized while outworking and outsmarting their counterparts just like we and the women before us have been. Somebody must be brave enough to push back, and that’s why she’s passionately on a mission to break gender norms and bring quality and ethics back into Home Renovation.
Cindy said that if she could go back and have a chat with her 18-year-old self she would tell her “You are enough!” You have always been enough. Courage doesn’t mean you’re fearless, it means you’re scared, and you do it anyway. All the dreams in your heart will still be there in your 30s so don’t give up and don’t back down, even when you’re tired and especially when you don’t see a way out. Keep faith and be BOLD!
