career exploration & workforce development ... FOR GIRLS!
When Natasha graduated from high school, she didn’t have a set career path. After she graduated, she went to work for a bank where she stayed for about 6 years which was more than enough time for her to realize that she didn’t want to be stuck sitting behind a desk for the rest of her professional life.
Natasha’s parents immigrated from Jamaica, and while she was growing up, she spent a lot of time alongside her father who did general contracting with a special focus on appliances. Although being a tradeswoman wasn’t her first career choice, when the opportunity to join the industry presented itself, Natasha knew that her time feeling trapped in something that she wasn’t truly called to do was over.
Natasha started EthelFox Construct Group, named after her late-mother Marian Ethel Osbourne and her youngest daughter Fox, and it includes EthelFox Construct, SkyGarden Landscaping, SkyLimitless Roofing and TKO Demolition. She is also Founder of a non-profit organization called A Women's Work (AWW) which supports women in the trades through pre-apprentice and self esteem programs. Natasha says that her mother always provided her with a safe and empowering place for her to learn and grow. She also says that her mother did some pretty amazing things in life, considering she didn’t have a lot to work with. Natasha considers her tenacity and drive, something that she learned from her mom and says that it has contributed to her success thus far.
When asked if she could go back in time and give her 18-year-old self some advice, Natasha says that advice would be to start exploring the trades as a viable career option. She would also tell her not to conform to the way society sees women and their roles because you truly can be anything you want to be...just wait and see!
